Just learning that Dr. Rev. Daniel Tin Wo Chow rested in peace with our Lord at the age of 96 in Boston, USA on 26th February 2022.
Rev. Chow graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Hong Kong in 1951. He served the Tsing Tsin Mission of Hong Kong faithfully for a long period of time. He also actively participated in the ministry of the Hong Kong Lutheran Churches and was highly respected in the Christian community.
Rev. Chow served as a Board Member of the Lutheran Theological Seminary for 15 years (1985 – 2000). He made valuable contributions to the development of the theological education in Hong Kong, and his help to the Lutheran Theological Seminary was remarkable.
Rev. Chow was also my professor. I remember during the academic year of 1987/88, while I was working on the degree of Master of Theology accredited by The South East Asia Graduate School of Theology, I studied under him on the “Pastoral Epistles of Paul” in the Divinity School of Chung Chi College. I was the only student in the class, and I learned so much from the one-to-one private tutoring. I am deeply impressed by his humble and mild character, profound learning and dedication in serving the Lord. All these are vivid memories in my heart.
Rev. Chow has passed away. I firmly believe that his dedication to Christ, his humbly service in the ministry and his diligence in training pastors have set an exemplary example for all of us.
“……He died, but through his faith he still speaks.” (Hebrews 11:4b)

The late Dr Daniel Chow was a highly respected teacher, spiritual mentor and a good friend to many brothers and sisters in Sabah.
Dr Chow’s contribution to the development of theological education in the Sabah Theological Seminary (STS) has been enormous. He first served STS as a visiting professor for a couple of years. When Dr Chow retired from Chung Chi Theological Seminary in 1992, Dr and Mrs Chow moved over to Sabah from Hong Kong to give their full-time voluntary service to STS from 1993 to 1995. During the period, Dr. Chow served as professor of New Testament while Mrs. Chow taught Christian Education.
Dr Chow’s office was characterized by wholehearted service, consistently in sympathy with, and relevant to, our context. He was, indeed, a true friend who gave unwavering support to STS in its teaching ministry and development.
Dr. Chow was a real good friend and a great Guru of us. I am grateful and thankful for the wonderful life examples he has set for all of us. He brought together all the best virtues in his life which included: sincerity, humility, broad mindedness, inclusivity, ecumenism and friendliness.
On behalf of my family, the Board of Governors, Faculty, Staff and Students of Sabah Theological Seminary I would like to convey our most sincere condolences and sympathy to Mrs. Chow and the family. We lost a spiritual mentor and a good senior brother in the partnership of the Gospel.
Dr Daniel Chow is now called back to his heavenly home, “that he may rest from his labors, for his deeds follow him!” as stated in Revelation 14:13.
Yours Sincerely,
Thu En Yu,

I have very fond memories of Dr Daniel Chow and family in our early days together in Saikung. Happy, innocent times, for us children at any rate! Our sincere condolences and best wishes to all.

I fondly remember visiting Dr. Chow’s home in HK when I was growing up, as close friends with Tim. It was a multi-faceted bridge between the westernized experience I mostly had, and local HK life (hakka of course), as well as between my secular and Tim’s religious worlds. It was also warm and welcoming and friendly, and I would not have guessed his powerhouse mind from the simple, humble interactions I had. Thanks for modeling that for me, Dr. Chow.

Chow.
